Facts You May Not Have Known about the Lewistown Skate Park

  • The Borough of Lewistown had allocated two tennis courts in the Borough’s Rec Park for the construction of a skatepark of 10,925 sq. ft. before taking it away again.

  • The skatepark will be open and free, for skateboarders and bikers.

  • The construction cost of $100,000 must be raised privately, through individual contributions and government and foundation grants. $120,000 has been raised (with the grant.)

  • The builder of the Skate Park will be Skatewave who comes highly recommended and has done over 950 skate parks worldwide.

  • The skate park will be made of steel and it will be professionally installed.

  • The equipment from Skatewave has a 15 year warrant

  • Insurance on the Skate Park by the Borough would cost little to nothing due coverage on an already existing swimming pool (high risk)

  • No annual maintenance cost. Very little maintenance cost since the equipment only needs to be checked from time to time.

  • Based on national averages, a community the size of Mifflin and Juniata counties should expect to have 500 to 1000 skateboarders and bikers.

  • Based on a petition taken at local highschools and middle schools, over 200 students say they would definitely use it.(this does not include those early then middle school and those who already graduated)
